Excellence Through Training
The Barbados Fire Service Training and Development Unit was established on January 1, 2006 under the instructions of Chief Fire Officer Chesterfield Mayers. The mandate of the Unit was to develop an entity to provide relevant and up-to-date professional development and training for all members of staff and fire safety training for the public.
The unit was initially staffed with a Training Officer, Deputy Training Officer and two Fire Officers. There are now three fire Officers in the Unit.
The Training Officer is responsible for the overall direction, guidance, administration and development of the unit. He, by virtue of his position, sits on the Training and Development Board.
The Deputy Training Officer supervises the training staff (instructors) and manages the day-to-day operations of the unit. He reports directly to the Training Officer.
The three Fire Officers, who are all certified Fire Service Instructors, are responsible for coordinating internal professional development training, on the station continuous training for Fire Officers and Public Fire safety Training. These activities are all done under the guidance of the Deputy Training Officer.
