The presence of a suspected firebug in Friendship Drive, St Michael, has left residents there fearful.
Residents yesterday complained that over the past three weeks, two unoccupied houses and an abandoned car had been burnt by an unidentified individual.
A resident at 2nd Avenue, Friendship Drive, told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that after an earlier attempt to torch the house on the avenue, the arsonist returned yesterday morning and destroyed it.
The concerned resident said that since the initial attempt to destroy the house, over the past week, she had slept in her veranda fully dressed.
She further stated that since the fires she has sought the assistance of parliamentary representative for the area, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mia Mottley, in ridding the area of the arsonist.
Another residentof 3rd Avenue Lowlands, St Michael, told the WEEKEND NATION that a week ago the arsonist struck again when an unoccupied house in the avenue was destroyed.
He further stated that an abandoned car in a nearby avenue was also burnt.
"I believe there is an arsonist on the prowl in the district destroying unoccupied houses and abandoned cars. I hope that lawmen catch him before he destroys occupied houses," the concerned resident said.
When contacted yesterday afternoon, acting Chief Fire Officer Anthony Blackman, confirmed that two unoccupied houses and an abandoned car in Friendship Drive were destroyed by fire. (NC) |
