Police are investigating a suspected case of arson that left two people in Christ Church counting their losses and two others thanking their lucky stars yesterday.
Annette Weekes, 43, and her brother Peter, 49, shared the two-bedroom house at No. 7 Milton Lane, Gall Hill, which was badly damaged in a blaze that started around 10 a.m.
Police on the scene said arson was suspected.
Neighbour Sean Marshall, a security guard, said when he saw smoke coming from the Weekes' home he broke in with a borrowed crowbar and managed to save some furniture.
However, he heard an explosion which prompted him to flee and turn his attention to his adjoining home.
Occupant of the other adjoining unit, 76-year-old Fitzgerald Hewitt, who is recovering from surgery, thanked neighbours for rushing to his assistance.
Damage to the two units attached to the Weekes' home was minor. |
