Police and fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that gutted the St. Peter office of the Barbados Sugar Industries Limited (BSIL) in the wee hours of yesterday morning.
BBSIL company secretary, Stuart Martin stared on in disbelief when he arrived at the scene just after 8 a.m. yesterday.
He estimated that the losses to the BSIL, which occupied that site for the past 11 years, could run into the thousands of dollars, possibly as high as $20 000. The nearby St. Nicholas Abbey was not damaged as a result of the fire.
One fire tender from the St. James fire station responded to the fire, which was believed to have started around 2:30 a.m. |
