| Barbecue Grill Safety...
Fires and explosions can be caused by the
malfunction and careless use of barbecue
grills. Grills are safe and convenient appliances
when assembled and used properly. Practice
the safety guidelines provided and your barbecues
will be safe and enjoyable.
Important Note: Always follow the manufacturers' instructions
and keep equipment manuals in a safe place.
In no circumstances are LPG (propane) grills
or cylinders to be used or stored in buildings
used for human habitation or other occupancy.
Barbecue grills should only be used on the
outside of buildings on a level, sturdy,
surface.
General Grill Safety
- ALWAYS locate your barbecue grill away from
combustible materials.
- ALWAYS keep a fire extinguisher within handy
reach.
- ALWAYS use long handled barbecue utensils
and flame retardant mittens.
- ALWAYS ensure that sparks blown by the wind
are properly extinguished when using propane
cylinders.
- NEVER leave young children or pets unattended
near a hot grill.
- NEVER situate your grill near wooden siding,
dry leaves or bush.
- DO NOT wear loose clothing and watch for
dangling apron strings and shirt tails.
- DO NOT attempt to service or repair a grill,
always take it to a dealer or agent.
Charcoal Grill Safety
- NEVER use gasoline or kerosene to start the
fire.
- NEVER add any type of starter once the coals
are burning.
- ALWAYS use charcoal grills in well ventilated
areas. Charcoal briquettes give off deadly
carbon monoxide gas.
- Allow coals to burn out completely and let
ashes cool for 48 hours.
- If you must dispose of the ashes before fully
cooled, soak them completely in water before
storing them.
- After using starter fluid, cap the fluid
container and move it away from the fire.
- To dispose of the ashes, wrap in foil and
place in a non-combustible container.
